From a young age, Kaylla set her sights on going to college and seeking a job in fashion. Growing up in Brooklyn, Kaylla attended a public charter school in the Bronx. Every morning she would travel an hour by train to school. On days she had to stay for tutoring or extra-curricular activities she wouldn’t get home until after 7 pm. She says those long, tiring days were well worth it because of the opportunities the school introduced her to.

One of those opportunities was Wishbone. Kaylla had been dreaming of attending a fashion design summer program when her Summer Opportunities Counselor told her about Wishbone. “She said if you don’t have the money to pay for that program, apply for a Wishbone scholarship.” Kaylla immediately applied.

The day Kaylla found out she had been accepted to Wishbone she called her mom eager to celebrate. “It was a good day for us because the program is over $2,000 and I don’t think I would have been able to go there without Wishbone’s help.” Kaylla knows a lot of students in her neighborhood who would love to attend a sewing or dance program but cannot afford it. “I think it’s kind of amazing that Wishbone can give you the means to do that.”
